Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman in the Advisory Committee Declared by the BCCI
Although Indian cricket fans have been rejoicing over the BCCI’s decision of appointing Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman as the main panel in its advisory committee there definitely is something more to it. This is indeed is a happy news, but there are several views which are associated with the breakdown of this news. Common people are really keen on knowing how and why the above mentioned three cricketers have been introduced to the position of the advisory. The very next step that the advisory team will take will be in terms of selecting the next coach of the Indian cricket team. Apart from changing the coach, the fans are mainly waiting for the in depth details of the next set of changes which the advisory panel may bring out for the game, the players and the viewers. According to the common man, there should be changes in the development and grassroots level of the game.
There is a major responsibility when one thinks of changing the game from the grass root level because one wrong decision or a slight change can affect the performance of the team. There has to be a very strong and a dedicated team support in order to create and carry on a five to ten year plan for bringing about the required or desired changes in the game, infrastructure, training and coaching, talent hunting, finances and resourcing.
Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have been impeccable players of the past, but still need to take up an in detailed study about the work process and functioning of the BCCI. The role of being an advisory is not an easy one as the advisory team should be skilled and experienced enough to think of all the aspects and not just the game. However, no offence to the well-formed and recognised cricketers, the role of advisory has to be studied and then performed. This is something that the BCCI should have realised before the common man. Also, the new advisory team has declared that there will be sources of direct mediums for cricketers to contact the BCCI. But, I fail to understand what the need is? There can be no discussion on this point as both the parties need not be connected in terms of games or in terms of rules.
Many people are also of the opinion that a great player can also be a great advisor. However, there is no proof for the same. The BCCI also has a toy to play around with since quite some time which is the IPL. Not forgetting to mention, IPL was not the brain of any cricketer but of an individual who was blessed with the two most important skills needed to create a difference or bring about a rage amongst fans. The needed skills are negotiation and administration skills. Scoring an amazing point in competition with the opponents during a match does not define the entrepreneurship and management skills of a player or I must say, an advisory. Nobody can ever oppose the very fact that the contributions by Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly in the fields of cricket and in terms of playing the game has been massive but their role on the advisory committee is something we will have to sit and watch. Noticing their play at the newly designated roles by the BCCI is the next big match fans are waiting to watch.
